The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is recruiting experienced plant biologists and/or biochemists to work on a project(s) studying tomato fruit biology using both genomic and biochemical approaches, with particular focus on cuticles, cell walls, and ripening related processes. The positions are based in the Plant Biology Section, School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University. These individuals will use innovative technologies to study aspects of the structure and function of structural polymers in fruit, and/or the mechanisms of their biosynthesis and modification during fruit development and ripening. Examples of related research themes and projects that align within this general topic are listed at the Rose lab website : (http://labs.plantbio.cornell.edu/rose/).

These positions will also involve the identification and characterization of novel cell and tissue type processes in tomato fruit (http://tea.solgenomics.net/) through interaction with a larger collaborative team of other tomato research groups at the Boyce Thompson Institute and USDA-ARS on the Cornell campus. This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of extension dependent on performance and funding.

A typical distribution of activities for this position might be as follows :
50% Data collection.
40% Data analysis.
5% Personal development related activities
5% Manuscript writing

Requirements :
The applicants must have a Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Plant Biochemistry, or a closely related field. The applicants should have at least 5 years of experience, gained through their Ph.D. and/or a postdoc, in a range of modern molecular techniques, and either : 1) demonstrable experience generating and analyzing RNA-seq data, or similar bioinformatic experience, as well as working with transgenic plants ; or 2) experience with enzymology and analytical biochemical techniques, such as HPLC, GC and mass spectrometry. Experience working with plant cuticles is particularly encouraged, and expertise in polymer biochemistry would be a benefit. Evidence of research experience working with tomato is strongly preferred. Applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and have a strong publication record.
